Dark Horse Super Bowl Contenders for 2025

Every NFL season brings surprises. Teams rise from obscurity and push into January with momentum no one saw coming. The 2025 season will be no different.

While powerhouses like Kansas City, Philadelphia, Buffalo, and Baltimore grab the headlines, several other teams are lurking just beneath the surface. These are the dark horses and are squads with ascending rosters, key offseason additions, and enough upside to make a legitimate Super Bowl run. If you are looking for value in the futures market, these teams deserve a closer look.

Washington Commanders (Odds: +1600)

Washington enters the 2025 season as one of the most compelling teams in the league. The buzz begins with quarterback Jayden Daniels, who led the team to its first playoff win in nearly two decades and an NFC Championship Game appearance as a rookie. His dynamic play and calm under pressure set the tone for a team on the rise.

This offseason, Washington continued to build aggressively. They acquired All-Pro left tackle Laremy Tunsil in a blockbuster trade to anchor the offensive line. Then they added Deebo Samuel, giving Daniels another explosive weapon alongside Terry McLaurin. On defense, they addressed the trenches by signing Javon Kinlaw and Eddie Goldman. They also re-signed veteran leaders Bobby Wagner and Jeremy Reaves to maintain continuity.

At plus 1600, the Commanders have the talent, coaching, and confidence to finish what they started last year. They are a legitimate threat to win it all.

Cincinnati Bengals (Odds: +1600)

The Bengals fell short in 2024, missing the playoffs after a late-season push. But the core remains intact, and the bounce-back potential is real.

Cincinnati locked up Tee Higgins on a four-year deal and extended Ja’Marr Chase, preserving one of the most dangerous receiver duos in football. With Joe Burrow healthy and surrounded by familiar weapons, the offense should return to elite form.

The defense underwent a makeover with the return of Al Golden, who helped guide the Bengals to the Super Bowl as a position coach in 2021. His second stint in Cincinnati brings a new tone and fresh perspective. The team added edge rusher Shemar Stewart and linebacker Barrett Carter in the draft, addressing long-standing needs with physical, high-upside players.

At +1600, Cincinnati offers rare value. The roster is ready, the quarterback is proven, and the defensive reset gives them a path back to contention.

Houston Texans (Odds: +2000)

The Texans are not sneaking up on anyone anymore. After two straight postseason appearances, Houston is ready to make a leap from promising to dominant.

C.J. Stroud enters year three as one of the most polished and composed quarterbacks in the league. In response, the front office built around him with intention. They bolstered the offensive line and added a versatile backfield featuring Nick Chubb and Joe Mixon.

At receiver, Houston brought in veterans Christian Kirk and Braxton Berrios, while rookie Jayden Higgins is already turning heads in camp with his ability to stretch the field. Defensively, DeMeco Ryans continues to build a unit that reflects his mindset: physical, accountable, and smart.

The AFC South remains wide open. With this level of talent and a clear path to a top seed, the Texans are a strong bet at +2000.

Denver Broncos (Odds: +3500)

Denver snapped an eight-year playoff drought last season, and they are poised to build on that breakthrough. Bo Nix enters his second year as the starter in Sean Payton’s system and has taken clear ownership of the offense.

The Broncos added J.K. Dobbins to a backfield that includes promising rookie RJ Harvey. Tight end Evan Engram joins the mix as a reliable middle-of-the-field option. On defense, the team made two impactful signings in Talanoa Hufanga and Dre Greenlaw, bringing both physicality and familiarity from their days in San Francisco.

With Pat Surtain II anchoring the secondary, and Maxx Crosby getting more help up front, Denver has the defensive core to compete. Add in Payton’s leadership and Nix’s progression, and the Broncos become a value play with serious upside at +3500.

Honorable Mentions

Chicago Bears (Odds: +3500)

The Bears are quickly rebranding under new head coach Ben Johnson. After leading the league’s highest-scoring offense in Detroit, Johnson brings his creativity and quarterback development skills to Chicago. Caleb Williams enters year two with growing expectations.

To protect their investment, the Bears signed Drew Dalman and Joe Thuney. In the draft, they added Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III, giving Williams more weapons alongside D.J. Moore. If the defense remains steady and the offense finds consistency, the Bears could turn into a serious NFC threat.

Pittsburgh Steelers (Odds: +5000)

Do not count out Pittsburgh. The Steelers signed Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal, giving them veteran stability after moving on from Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. Early reports from camp suggest Rodgers has already found chemistry with new wideout D.K. Metcalf.

Defensively, Pittsburgh added Darius Slay Jr. to play across from Joey Porter Jr. They drafted Derrick Harmon to shore up the interior and added pass rush depth with Jack Sawyer. There are concerns with T.J. Watt’s holdout, but overall this defense remains formidable.

If Rodgers stays healthy and the defense plays to its potential, Pittsburgh becomes a classic sleeper pick with high reward potential at +5000.

Final Thoughts

Each of these teams made bold offseason moves that elevated their outlook for 2025. Washington surrounded Jayden Daniels with proven playmakers. Cincinnati doubled down on its elite core and retooled its defense. Houston, Denver, Chicago, and Pittsburgh added smart pieces and found the right leadership to match their ambition.

If you are looking beyond the favorites for value in the futures market, these are the teams that check the right boxes. They have the quarterback. They have the talent. And they have a real chance to crash the party in February.
