NFL Week 16 Studs and Duds: Puka Nacua Dominates, Amon-Ra St. Brown Disappoints

Just a few weeks remain in what has been an outstanding NFL regular season. As the push toward a championship continues, let’s take a look at who showed out for your team and who burned out in Week 16’s Studs and Duds.

Stud: Puka Nacua

Puka Nacua has been nothing short of dominant this season, and Thursday night was no exception. In a shootout, he caught 12 of his 16 targets for 225 yards and two touchdowns, good for 46.5 fantasy points. Much like Kyle Pitts the week prior, Puka decided the outcome of countless fantasy playoff matchups before the weekend even began.

It was a record-breaking night for Nacua. Not only did he set a new career high in receiving yards, aided by three catches of 40 or more yards, but he also became just the second player since Isaac Bruce to record at least 167 receiving yards in three consecutive games. Puka has been phenomenal, but Matthew Stafford deserves plenty of credit as well, as he could help Nacua become the third wide receiver under his watch to lead the league in receiving yards.

Dud: DK Metcalf

DK Metcalf’s stat line in Seattle’s upset win over Detroit was modest, four catches for 42 yards, with two of those receptions coming during the Steelers’ 17-point fourth quarter, totaling 8.2 fantasy points. However, it was not his on-field performance that landed him here.

In the second quarter, Metcalf approached a Lions fan, grabbed him, exchanged words, and then appeared to take a jab at his head. The incident resulted in a two-game suspension that will keep Metcalf out for the remainder of the regular season. On top of that, because the suspension was ruled “conduct detrimental,” Metcalf is set to lose $45 million in guarantees from his $132 million contract. That whiffed punch likely wasn’t worth it.

Stud: Ashton Jeanty

Despite the Raiders’ disastrous season, Ashton Jeanty continues to be a bright spot. In Las Vegas’ near upset, Jeanty carried the ball 24 times for 128 yards and a touchdown, while also catching a 60-yard pass from Geno Smith for another score, totaling 31.8 fantasy points.

It marked a season high in carries for Jeanty and his best fantasy output since his three-touchdown performance against the Bears in Week 4. With the Raiders set to face the Giants in a matchup that could decide the first overall pick, it remains unclear what the game plan will be, but there is reason to believe Jeanty could deliver another strong performance.

Dud: Josh Jacobs

There was uncertainty heading into Saturday night about whether Josh Jacobs would play against the Bears, and after his performance, resting may have been the better option. In Green Bay’s loss, Jacobs carried the ball 12 times for 36 yards and caught both of his targets for 12 yards, finishing with 4.8 fantasy points.

Jacobs also fumbled at the Chicago three-yard line on first and goal late in the third quarter, killing what had been a promising drive. Following the turnover, he played just two more snaps. Head coach Matt LaFleur later confirmed the reduced workload was not due to a reinjured knee. Meanwhile, Emanuel Wilson capitalized on his opportunity with 14 carries for 82 yards. With Jacobs still limited in practice and both Jordan Love and Malik Willis on the injury report, expect Green Bay to lean heavily on the run game this weekend regardless of who is under center.

Stud: Chase Brown

Chase Brown continues to quietly be one of the most consistent fantasy running backs in the league. In Cincinnati’s win over Miami, Brown rushed 12 times for 66 yards and a touchdown while catching all four of his targets for 43 yards and two additional scores, totaling 32.9 fantasy points.

Remarkably, all three touchdowns came in the third quarter. Brown has now scored at least 15 fantasy points in eight straight weeks, cementing himself as a reliable option for fantasy championship matchups as the Bengals prepare to face the Cardinals.

Dud: Amon-Ra St. Brown

Coming off a massive 41.4-point performance against the Rams, expectations were sky-high for Amon-Ra St. Brown against Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, the results fell well short. St. Brown caught just four of nine targets for 54 yards, finishing with 9.4 fantasy points.

He also had a controversial offensive pass interference call negate what would have been the game-winning touchdown. Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey largely kept St. Brown in check, limiting him to just 3.0 fantasy points across their 20 coverage matchups. After the loss, Detroit now faces a steep uphill battle to remain in the playoff hunt.

Emergency Room

Quinshon Judkins

Quinshon Judkins suffered a broken leg in the second quarter against the Bills after taking a low hit on a swing pass, abruptly ending a promising rookie season. With Judkins and Dylan Sampson both sidelined, Raheim Sanders, available in 98 percent of leagues, could be a sneaky pickup for managers chasing a title or trying to avoid the toilet bowl.

J.J. McCarthy

J.J. McCarthy injured his throwing hand in the second quarter against the Giants after a sack by Brian Burns. He missed the remainder of the game and has since been ruled out for this weekend’s matchup against the Lions. Max Brosmer will start in his place after posting minus-3.06 fantasy points in his only previous start, making Detroit’s defense an appealing streaming option.
