Editorial Standards

These standards describe how Sandman Sports produces its coverage. They apply to every article, podcast, and feature published on this site.

Sourcing

Primary sources. Where possible, we rely on primary sources, including official team and league communications, on-the-record interviews, court documents, and public databases.

Named attribution. Sourced facts and quotes are attributed to identifiable individuals or publications. We use anonymous sources only when the information is significant, cannot reasonably be obtained on the record, and the source’s credibility has been independently verified.

Statistics. Sports statistics are sourced from official league data feeds and established data providers. When citing advanced metrics, we identify the provider and link to the source when possible.

Aggregation. When summarizing reporting that originated elsewhere, we credit and link to the original source. We do not present aggregated reporting as original reporting.

Fact-Checking

Before publication, writers verify factual claims, including names, dates, scores, statistics, and quotes, against primary sources.

Editors review submitted articles for factual accuracy, clarity, and overall editorial standards before publication.

When we discover an error after publication, we follow our corrections policy.

Opinion, Analysis & Prediction

Much of our coverage includes analysis, projections, rankings, betting discussion, opinion columns, and predictive features. We label these clearly and hold them to the same factual-accuracy standards as traditional reporting.

Disagreeing with a prediction is part of sports. The underlying facts supporting that prediction should still be accurate.

AI-Assisted Writing

Sandman Sports articles are written, edited, and reviewed by human members of our editorial staff. Every article is bylined to a real person accountable for its content.

We may use AI tools to assist with research, outlining, summarizing public information, copy editing, or generating illustrative imagery. However, a human writer or editor is responsible for reviewing every fact, quote, statistic, and editorial judgment contained in the final published work.

We do not publish fully automated articles, and we do not publish AI-generated quotes attributed to real people.

Independence

Editorial decisions are not influenced by advertisers, sponsors, sportsbooks, or commercial partners.

When coverage involves a sponsor or business relationship, we disclose that relationship clearly within the article where appropriate.

Our betting and picks coverage is editorial in nature. We do not accept payment in exchange for picks, rankings, ratings, or favorable coverage.

Range of Coverage

Sandman Sports covers a wide variety of sports, leagues, teams, and perspectives. We believe strong sports coverage benefits from a range of viewpoints, writing styles, and analytical approaches.
