MLS Power Rankings Matchday 14: Nashville SC Climbs to No. 1

Matchday 14 of the 2026 Major League Soccer (MLS) season delivered one of the wildest weeks yet. Dominant wins, surprise upsets, and standout individual performances reshaped the league landscape in a major way. The biggest story came from Nashville SC, which used a statement victory over LAFC to leapfrog both the San Jose Earthquakes and Vancouver Whitecaps atop the latest MLS Power Rankings.

These rankings factor in more than just the latest scorelines. Overall form, consistency, underlying metrics, injuries, and quality of play all carry weight. As the season progresses, the clubs separating themselves from the pack have generally been the ones finding the right balance between attacking quality and defensive structure. Right now, no team fits that description better than Nashville SC.

Top Tier: The MLS Elite

1. Nashville SC

For the first time this year, Nashville SC sits atop the Power Rankings. Hany Mukhtar leads the charge and is playing some of the best soccer of his career. Last weekend, he delivered a hat-trick, including two free-kick goals, in a dramatic 3-2 win over LAFC. That performance came only days after Nashville dismantled the New England Revolution 3-0 away from home.

The club now seems like the complete package. Nashville possesses firepower up front, composure in midfield, and a disciplined defensive shape. Mukhtar is one of the defining stars of this MLS era, and his current form has Nashville looking like a legitimate Supporters’ Shield favorite.

2. Vancouver Whitecaps FC

A 1-0 loss to the Houston Dynamo slowed Vancouver’s momentum, especially after goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka was sent off. Even so, the Whitecaps remain one of the strongest sides in MLS. They had beaten FC Dallas 3-2 only days earlier and still hover near the top of the Western Conference. Pace, technical sharpness, and relentless energy are central to their identity.

3. Inter Miami CF

Inter Miami has rediscovered its rhythm with three straight victories and 11 goals scored during that stretch. The 2-0 win over the Portland Timbers marked the club’s first victory at NU Stadium and once again showcased Lionel Messi’s brilliance. Messi now sits at 13 goals and five assists on the season, dictating matches with elite vision, movement, and finishing ability. Following the Florida Derby defeat to Orlando, Miami has responded exactly the way a contender should.

4. San Jose Earthquakes

The Earthquakes finally hit turbulence after their unbeaten run came to an end. San Jose suffered a pair of 3-2 defeats in the same week, first against Seattle and then against FC Dallas. Conceding late goals exposed some defensive cracks, while injuries to Timo Werner and Niko Tsakiris proved costly. Despite the setbacks, San Jose still looks every bit like a serious contender in the Western Conference.

5. New England Revolution

The Revolution responded impressively after a difficult loss to Nashville, bouncing back with a 2-1 victory over Minnesota United. New England may not dominate possession every week, but the club consistently finds results. With eight wins already this season, the Revs have established themselves as one of the more efficient teams in MLS.

Teams Climbing Fast

6. Real Salt Lake

Real Salt Lake continues to surge. Zavier Gozo has caught fire with three goals across two matches, helping RSL secure victories over Houston (3-0) and Colorado (2-1). The club is rapidly becoming one of the West’s most dangerous teams, and several players are beginning to generate buzz for future U.S. national team consideration.

7. FC Dallas

Dallas picked up one of the most impressive wins of the week, defeating San Jose 3-2 on the road with a stoppage-time winner. The result reinforced the idea that Dallas can challenge anyone in the conference when the attack is clicking.

8. LA Galaxy

The Galaxy delivered a statement result of their own with a 2-0 road victory over the Seattle Sounders, snapping Seattle’s lengthy unbeaten streak at Lumen Field. After a shaky start to the campaign, there are finally signs this squad is moving in the right direction.

9-10. Houston Dynamo and Chicago Fire

Houston continues to build excitement after defeating Vancouver, while Chicago’s rise has been fueled by the outstanding form of Hugo Cuypers. The striker has now scored in 10 consecutive matches and leads MLS with 13 goals.

Crowded Middle of the Table

LAFC, Seattle Sounders, Minnesota United, FC Cincinnati, and Charlotte FC all remain firmly in the playoff conversation, though none have found much consistency lately. LAFC is sliding after collecting only one point from its last four matches, and defensive lapses are becoming a growing concern. Cincinnati, meanwhile, has struggled defensively despite flashes of attacking quality.

Trouble Near the Bottom

At the other end of the standings, clubs like the Portland Timbers, Colorado Rapids, CF Montréal, St. Louis City, and Toronto FC are still searching for answers. Injuries, defensive instability, and a lack of attacking creativity continue to derail momentum for several of these teams.
