The win-or-go-home pressure of the NFL playoffs makes every snap matter that much more. Seasons can be made or lost in a single moment, and everyone wants to be the hero. But sometimes in the postseason, the most unlikely players step up when it matters most. With Wild Card weekend now in the books, it’s time to look at some of the standout performances from the slate.
Jalen Coker, WR – Carolina Panthers
Despite the loss, Coker and his connection with Bryce Young tormented the Rams all game. He finished with nine catches for 134 yards and a touchdown, with that lone score coming with under three minutes to play to put the Panthers up by four. His performance nearly helped Carolina pull off a major upset, and regardless of the result, he showed that this young Panthers team is clearly trending in the right direction.
Josh Allen, QB – Buffalo Bills
It’s no surprise that one of the league’s best playoff performers delivered once again. Allen totaled 306 yards with three touchdowns and no turnovers, then answered a late Jaguars score with his own game-winning drive, willing Buffalo to at least one more week of football. With the Bills’ defense still suspect, Allen will need to continue playing his best ball if they want to keep advancing.
Jalen Pitre, DB – Houston Texans
Just about everyone on Houston’s defense deserves praise after dismantling the Steelers, but Pitre stood out because he was everywhere. He led the team with seven tackles, shined in coverage, and consistently flew to the ball against the run. Add in two tackles for loss, and it’s easy to see how his effort helped hold Pittsburgh to just six points at home.
Demarcus Robinson, WR – San Francisco 49ers
Robinson emerged from the 49ers’ Wild Card win as an unlikely hero. His six catches for 111 yards and a touchdown helped San Francisco upset the defending Super Bowl champions after George Kittle went down with a torn Achilles in the second quarter. With the season on the line, Brock Purdy leaned on Robinson, who had just 22 catches for 276 yards during the regular season.
Jordan Love, QB – Green Bay Packers
Coming off a concussion that sidelined him for three weeks, there were real concerns about rust. Love erased them quickly, throwing for 323 yards and four touchdowns in Green Bay’s crushing loss to the Bears. An early lead should have decided the game, but poor decisions and a fourth-quarter collapse doomed the Packers. Despite the loss, Love added another impressive chapter to his young playoff résumé.
Christian Kirk, WR – Houston Texans
For much of the game, Houston’s offense threatened to waste an incredible defensive performance. When Nico Collins went down with a concussion early in the second half, someone had to step up. Kirk did exactly that, finishing with eight catches for 144 yards and a touchdown. Like Robinson, he had been a minor contributor during the regular season, totaling just 239 yards, but when the moment demanded it, he delivered.
